Rafting in Carinthia – A Tradition on the Drava River

In a cheerful atmosphere and to the sounds of the accordion, the raftsmen will take you back to a time when wood was the greatest wealth of this region. Glide along the green Drava River on a traditional wooden raft and discover in a fun way how enormous logs were once transported, timber was traded, and the raftsmen lived their true life on the river.

Today, these stories come to life at the Carinthian Raftsmen’s Landing in Gortina, where an approximately two-hour ride along the Drava River awaits you. During the trip, relax, sing and dance, listen to the raftsmen’s anecdotes, and learn about their life in the past.

With a hearty homemade snack from the raftsmen’s kitchen and a tasting of Carinthian must and juice, you can experience the authentic taste of Carinthia. On each “rajža,” the raftsmen also welcome a new apprentice into their guild – who must prove they are brave, mature, and sharp enough to become a true member of the raftsmen’s family.
