Cultural heritage of Muta – the history and heritage of the place

MITNICA

A new tourist destination in the Drava Valley. The facility is dedicated to cultural, tourist, sports, and hospitality offerings. The project Drava as an Opportunity – opened in 2011.

ANTON REPNIK GALLERY

It is located in his family home at 10 Gasilska Street.

MUNICIPALITY, BLACKSMITH-FOUNDRY AND FIRE BRIGADE MUSEUM

It showcases the history of the municipality, particularly the blacksmithing tradition, first mentioned way back in 1573. In addition to the blacksmithing and foundry collection, the museum also features firefighting and cultural-historical exhibits.

RUINS OF THE OLD CASTLE ABOVE MUTA

The castle, built at the end of the 12th century, provided protection for the customs house – the toll station in the valley. The customs station, once called Mauth, gave the town of Muta its name. The medieval castle has been in ruins since the 16th century, replaced by the Kienhofen manor (now within the municipality). The customs station on the regional border was established as early as 1147.

DRAUŠBAHER HOUSE

The house, over 350 years old, is the oldest traditional house in the area, also known as the Trotnar Cabin.

WATER TOWER

It was built in 1927, supplying the entire Upper Muta area with drinking water, and it still serves its purpose today.
